The Tehláreň festival takes its name from the former brickworks in Liptovský Mikuláš, where the first year took place. The brickyard was founded in 1906 by the master Peter Krivosh. A number of buildings have been constructed from these bricks, including the iconic Ružomberok railway station.
With about twenty workers a day, they produced about 800 thousand brick products a year. However, the political changes in 1948 brought a twist of faith. The brickyard in Liptovský Mikuláš was nationalised, and some of its employees were put on trial as a result of political repressions. The brickyard was later closed and production ceased.
The building and its 9000m² of premises were decaying until the festival. Within two months, we managed to clear the premises, sort out tons of waste, secure the premises and reopen the factory that had been closed for decades.
